What is a Walk-in Bathtub?
0embed
Walk-in bathtubs and showers are specially
designed and equipped bathing systems that assist the elderly, those
with limited ability and the disabled in having enjoyable and safe
bathing experiences. Walk-in bathtubs allow the elderly and those with
mobility handicaps to safely enter and exit the tub without the
inconvenience of stepping over the rim of a normal bathtub. Most
walk-in baths have a specially designed door on the side of the bathtub
to allow the elderly and disabled to take a bath or shower without
assistance from others.
The majority of walk-in bathtubs have either an
inward opening or outward opening door. The door is built to be
watertight and self-sealing, so there is no problem with water
leakages. Other types of walk-in bathtubs require no step-in at all;
these bathtubs have higher seats and outward opening doors that enable
one to simply sit on the seat and pivot and swing their legs into the
tub. This type of walk-in bathtub can be helpful to those confined to
wheelchairs, and others with mobility challenges.
Many walk-baths come available with hydrotherapy,
water jets and whirlpool features to deliver a truly therapeutic
experience. Many walk-in bathtubs also have a built-in seat for the
bather to sit in and a slip-free floors. Convenient grip handles are
another common feature to custom walkin bathtubs; these internal grab
bars assist in aiding an individual in raising and lowering his or body
into the bathwater. Handheld showerheads are also quite common to
enable one to take a shower without having to stand in front of a
standard wall mounted showerhead.
